The Royal Botanic Garden Edinburgh is already many things to many people: a space in which to relax; a collection of plants from around the globe; and a world-renowned centre of scientific excellence. However, by driving ahead with proposals for its ambitious project at the West Gate, it now has the potential to become much more.

While the Garden is regarded with affection, the extent of its on-going commitments to research, conservation and education is not always fully understood. The Gateway Project will open the doors of communication and ensure all visitors have an opportunity to discover both the Garden and the wider issues it encapsulates.

'We are geared towards a truly 21st century visitor experience', explained Director of Public Programmes, Dr Ian Darwin Edwards. 'We intend to create a dynamic exhibition at the entrance to the Garden and it will be constantly topical - highlighting what's happening here and relating it to internationally vital issues.'
